The video is not the song.
Bryan Ferry knew the story, he just shared it un-personally.
I wish the video could have said something else.
You can’t build happiness on another’s unhappiness.
If there is one thing we made that describes my feelings, in one object, it is this ‘locket’ that will not open.
Before it came into existence I never wanted it to be a locket, other than to be a medallion object of sorts, the black opal wrapped in pure 24 karat gold. Halfway the idea of a locket came in, but I do not want the black opal to be an opening. I wanted it to be it. And yet that restraint serves up its own storm.
Thoughts are incapable of paving the highway of the heart. The restraint has become the wind, whenever.
The medallion that was never meant to be a locket, longing for everything, wanting nothing.
A project involving three rings. This is the first. The face is the size of two knuckles.
For a woman. From her husband. By us. Me. I keep replaying this scene.
This project is very exciting. Because it is one of those projects I get to do what I can feel, and get to do it like that.
Yet every time I photograph the work-in-progress, I am a little astonished.
Because it is only now I know the ring is a flora specimen.
I am always amazed by the subconscious being so hardworking.
For I am so lazy, cursed by the bricked heart and its thorny undergrowth.
Corny. But true.
Reminder to self: updates to the other two rings please!
