5.01ct unheated blue sapphire from Sri Lanka.
This is a cornflower blue sapphire with a lovely undertone of violet. Its velvety blue is of a medium saturation with good fire.
Yet it is really its violet hue expressed in its blue that gives this stone its ID.
The sapphire holds its color in and away from light, which is one reason why cornflower blue sapphires are so desirable. Their medium saturation means they will be more or less the color of the stone when set into gold.
The last photo shows the sapphire taken with a lamp. All other photos are taken in natural light.
The stone measures 8.36 x 9.22 x 7.08 mm.
