19th century antique cannetille silver necklace.
This necklace reveals both Victorian and Indian influences, formed entirely by ornate individual links. Each link has one part cannetille and granulation, and the other part a heart motif seen in traditional Indian jewelry.
The combination of East and West makes this unique piece appear quite like ethnic jewelry and it is this that enriches this necklace.
The back of the links are flat and smooth so the necklace wears flat on the neckline, like lace streamlined even where it is ornate.
It is possible the necklace used to have a gold wash, as some parts retain that brightness. The necklace has developed a nice two tone brightness which gives the silver depth.
The hexagonal barrel clasp has Art Nouveau carved motifs which hints to its early Victorian origins. The necklace is hallmarked.
The necklace is mysterious alone and its two tone colour will layer well with even gold.
