SIJS Sunstone Diamond Ring

Platinum and 18k sunstone set with two VS/F baguette diamonds.

The 2.57ct sunstone is pink-orange, with three even streaks of copper schiller running diagonally through the top of the stone. These diagonal streaks are encapsulated into the form of this ring, first by cutting the stone into a twist top emerald, then by setting the ring in an East-West setting.

The elongated setting continues into a wheatsheaf motif through the ring band, all aspects of a classical ethos.

Flanked by a 0.16ct baguette diamond on each side, the shoulder of the ring is tucked behind the diamonds – the ring band comes into view only when seen sideways and in profile. When worn on the finger, the top view is solely the trio (sunstone and diamonds). “One idea at one time” – this consideration keeps the atypical elongated setting in check.

The wheatsheaf is a symbolism of intertwined lives, harvest and closeness to the Earth. The wheatsheaf also signifies strength, because bound together the strands of wheat are strong, but singly, they will break and bend at
the slightest touch.

Because the sunstone is beautiful for its schiller, forming both cut and design of the ring around what Nature has given us presents a ring with a feminine, albeit strong flavour. In different light, the depth (literally) and hence personality of this particular sunstone is magnified, not unlike an East West painting where the schiller rivers amidst the twist cut.
