Description

Spinel Pendant Necklace

Fine large flora pendant set with a 14.99ct Vietnamese purple spinel and accented with diamonds in 18k.

The long drawn-out silhouette is designed to push along a length of ribbon, cord, or chain, sautoir style.

A branch of the decorative pendant offered on ribbon is insouciant, becoming quite another thing if paired with a chain.

Versatility is possible from its top down design, not immediately obvious, and not just a long pendant.

The spinel is made focal, on any cord or chain it is the centre of gravity.

The color way is purple against alloys of yellow, white and black golds.

The cushion cut main stone is set in a twin frame: the narrow-inner follows the stone’s outline, while the vast-outer takes the shape of a flower.

This technique substantially manifests the resonance of the spinel – size, lustre and everything nice, and overcomes the problems of corners.

The laurel leaves blackened to effect – this is also a design that makes small diamonds work singularly.

The large spinel enjoys great brilliance in its floral crown, the gem very much separated from its scaffolding, a network of ‘little ginseng men’.

Hidden from sight, the LGM creates a bezel for the stone without a frame, and extends the prongs meaningfully into the bezel.

The four LGM in turn extend into a monogram ‘stamped’ under the stone.

Such alternative filigree work is possible with creative vision.

The pendant is crafted with loops along its stem, ribbon with-in or -out, the gold work is as appealing underside.

This linear construction if not sleek cannot unpack its 8cm figural flatness into a wispy jewel.

Its long silhouette adores the V neck, from the crispy shirt to the gauzy kebaya, much versatility for the modern flapper.

For now, sautoir pendant or bolo tie, it’s time to thread whichever ribbon, color du jour.

Diamonds weigh 2.46ctw.
