Medieval Style Ring Sugarloaf Sapphire Ring

Description

24k Medieval Style Ring

Fine medieval style ring set with a 7.5 unheated blue sapphire in 24k.

The natural sapphire is an intense blue sugarloaf cabochon from Sri Lanka.

The sugarloaf has enough depth to set into a pie-dish bezel, redolent of classical men’s rings.

Its Gothic bezel is considered ornate, having both a milled edge simulating filigree and bordered by twisted wire.

The long sides continue with the Gothic ‘window’ of lone diamonds, somewhat conjured by the stained glass display of its sugarloaf en cabochon.

To work a 24k ring in bezel style requires care – it has to be more robust than actual medieval period rings.

A truly resplendent ‘revival’ ring made in our present day must strengthen the gold if carving and sculptural work are involved.

The smaller the stone the more challenging it is to build a ring like this; the work is always more than it seems.

The ring weighs 23.5 grams.

Please get in touch if you wish to build a similar ring with your stone (the stone should not be small).
