Description

Two natural, unheated, untreated Burmese orange spinels for sale, 3.10ct and 1.72ct.

The 3.10ct is a cushion shape, while the 1.72ct is a rectangle shape. These older spinels (older cut) are not traditionally cut as ‘fancy’ or ‘tear drop’ etc, but rather, the stones are cut to shape.

For this reason if you are looking for an interesting spinel, this lot is worth considering.

These Bumese spinels display an orange natural and distinct from treated orange gems, the latter tend to be blindingly vivid and unreal. You can google ‘beryllium treated’ gems to get a better idea.

Orange sapphires are lovely when they are clearly not red! or when the orange has a tinge of pink, such as padparadschas.

Spinels are desired for their wonderful spectrum of colors and for generally having great fire.

Those that approximate ruby or padparadscha colors fetch more in the gem market but it is hardly the only thing to consider. Because spinels are still not crazily priced (like rubies), you can get them in more interesting (uncommon) shapes or cuts.

Google ‘Balas Ruby’ to read more about this mis-valued gem.

In this 5-stone spinel lot (see other listings for others in the lot), we have two stones that look particularly like rubies, and one stone that looks particularly like a padparadscha. Guess!

If you need ideas how to set these gems, please get in touch.

We don’t have to make it for you, but it really helps when gemstone sourcing online to know what designs you have in mind. Some gems ask for it, others lesser so 🙂
