SIJS Heritage Gold Ring

Fine heritage gold ring set with a 5.7ct Burmese tourmaline and moonstones in 22k.

The round tourmaline is orange pink, paired with moonstones with strong blue adularescence.

The tourmaline’s padparadscha hue is not as fiery like a sapphire, hence the halo constructed with moonstones will draw the main stone’s color and luster to the eye.

There is also the desire to keep the tourmaline’s uncommon color as close to a grapefruit as possible.

The moonstones are set in a shared bezel built very traditionally, the way heritage rings throughout history are forged.

To keep the fire of the moonstones, this bezel has no carved gallery or ‘holes’ in the mount.

This actually preserves the luster of stones such as moonstones, in effect you want a darkening over which it casts on the main stone ie. a tourmaline is transparent beside the translucent moonstones.

This is what we mean by ‘heritage’ rings, when decisions of aesthetic conform to the stones already decided, followed by techniques on manifesting individual presence and communal harmony.

The white gold prongs are filed to a flushed flatness pushing down onto the moonstones, they appear like diamonds if not for their blue flash.

The rest of the ring is crafted in yellow gold. The high karat gold sharpens the tourmaline; whereas the moonstones are white collared.

This two tone gold is both sharp and subtle, a traditional way to work with Burmese stones, another critical management of what makes a ‘heritage’ ring.

The round cut tourmaline resides like a lozenge on its sweet halo ‘wrapper’, the main stone remains as succulent as if a loose stone.

No color is lost, only fire under, in this ‘padparadscha’ tourmaline ring.

The ring comes to 23mm tall and is widest at 20mm.

Only two diamonds are used in this ring, weighing 0.16ctw.
