Very fine jadeite jade ruby sapphire earrings set with 12.57ctw Burmese jade cabochons, accented with rubies, sapphires and Old Mine Cut diamonds.

The earrings are handcrafted in platinum and 18k.

The jade cabochons display an ‘imperial green’ hue, highly translucent and uniform in tone, its color manifested by a high dome.

The cabochons are so translucent the stones pool with light, or darken against the light, very vividly. Moving the jade even a little reflects the turn of light.

Quality like this is coveted when the jadeite is cut at this high carat size.

Each stud measures 15mm by 11mm, with a depth about 10mm.

Both the Burmese rubies and Sri Lankan sapphires are not small stones, each at 3mm. These accent stones were selected very deliberately, to offer comparable saturation and shine as the main stones.

Our objective was to design a set of jade heirloom jewels; this set was handcrafted by us early in our career as antique and bespoke jewellers.

Its design is inspired by a prewar Cartier Art Deco piece, except we desire for the jade to host other traditional gems, hence rubies and sapphires.

On each earring, 13 cabochons are lined between the jadeite and diamonds.

On the earlobes, the jadeite stones are wholly displayed, whereas the rubies, sapphires and diamonds are visible only by profile, a turn of the head.

This is what gives the earrings its high jewelry aesthetic, as is its refinement as a two tone gold jewel that will pair with both yellow or white jewelry.

The earrings are wholly platinum, including the floral backings, with the exception of the rim of gold bordering the rubies and sapphires.

The earrings feel dainty in the hands, but they are after all larger size studs, with striking presence on the ears.

While there is a choice for dangle or drop earrings using jade, in both antique and fine jewelry, it is impossible to find a bigger pair of refined jade ear studs.

There is a sentiment of Mughal jewelry in these Deco earrings, but it is not a mishmash.

We merely revived the practice of East-West imaginings in jewelry art when travel was limited (thus imagination had a distinct flavour).

Set in old world glamour, paying homage to historical period pieces, before jade jewelry became typically stereotyped, or typically adorned.
