Description
SIJS custom ring set with jadeite jade, diamonds and sapphires in 22k.
The ring is converted from a pendant. Many conversion jobs (especially pendant to ring) tend to be overly adventurous or overly boring.
We had a simple job to do, because the vintage pendant was very well crafted (and simple) to begin with, with a bright apple green jadeite cabochon and excellent diamonds set with breathing space in between.
But adding a simple ring band to the centrepiece would kill the centrepiece, and adding actual ‘design’ to the centrepiece would also kill the centrepiece.
Our decision was to create a ‘channel’ band, composing of really two bands but set as one. Giving a Modernist solution to what is a vintage centrepiece sometimes produces a unique identity, as we hoped for this ring.
The channel band is kept from being too stiff by a gentle crossover at the back of the ring, forming another part of the ring’s quiet identity.
A ‘boxy’ level band can contrast with and bring out a contoured centrepiece well because opposites (at times do) balance. We only need to make sure the proportion is right.
