24k gold ring set with a Burmese pink sapphire weighing 5.5ct.

The unheated sapphire is a freeform cabochon, cut more like a splice than a cab.

We built the whirl-shaped sapphire into a mount as organic as the stone.

The texture and groove collective in the gold are both deliberate and restrained, to achieve a synergy from stone to gold.

The purity of high karat gold has cast a golden sheen onto the stone. This vividness spreads from the very edges of the stone, that is not lost when the ring is on the finger.

While the color of stones in general benefit from having depth, this flat cab is already well colored by Nature.

It is critical the ring is forged in 24k solid gold.

The pink appears deep pink, the gold a painted planetary rock.

A freeform splice cabochon is challenging to set, but the angles derived on the mounted stone are refreshing.

We get a ‘cross-sectional’ ring face, lake at the top.

The whirl is around 15mm by 13mm.
