Art Deco style ring set with a marquise jade, natural blue sapphires and diamonds in platinum and 22k gold.
To work this casual piece of jade, we must enliven its color, pairing with cobalt sapphires in a two tone ring.
The jade is an old piece kept as keepsake. We housed the marquise as if part of a tabletop. This long and slim platinum ‘counter’ is cornered by tapered sapphires and bordered by diamonds.
The jade is also tiny, under which we built its meticulous ‘drawer’, a crisscross that is laborious to carve in a ring meant for the pinky.
Idealising the small onto a tabletop allows us to build a ‘container’ for the array of small stones. The sum of its parts is what makes this pinky ring come alive, and in its ultra ‘boxy’ package.
Working shapes to an ideal is an Art Deco rigidity, yet this is quintessentially Art Deco chic.
The deliberate choice of shape / size / color, and detail not immediately visible to the eye – a micro artistic aesthetic blurs the line between what is Art Deco and Art Deco Revival.
The rear of the ring is as beautiful as its face.
There are plans to make a sister ring to this, for the other hand. Pinky to pinky, the Art Deco semblance is complete!
